It's a tough job

This article describes the work of journalists. For journalists everywhere, it is a familiar story. Time is marching on, the company press officer has still not called back, the production team is chomping at the bit for the extra couple of inches of copy needed to fill that hole, and the chances of getting home in time to catch that latest episode of CSI are looking increasingly slim. But in the science publishing world, in particular, journalists -- as well as the press officers charged with the job of getting the information out to us -- arguably have a harder task than most. Quite apart from the proverbial problems of sourcing pictures and quotes, one of the biggest challenges faced by science media professionals is 'finding researchers who can explain science in an understandable way', according to a communications survey last week by EurekAlert!
