ABSTRACT
The article discusses the emerging role of Japan in global affairs and the best possible course of foreign policy to be adopted by the country. It is pointed out that a purely nationalistic foreign policy could be detrimental to the long-term interests of the country and bring in a sense of isolation in the international arena. Many possible variations of the future foreign policy of Japan are discussed. These include a balanced approach in the direction of developing Japan as a global power.
