ABSTRACT
The article reports that the Clear Fork roadless area in western Colorado which holds one of the widest expanses of aspen trees in the world, is about to be put on the auction block because federal officials plan to offer a portion for natural gas exploration. At least 14 other roadless-areas projects, ranging from energy development to logging and mining, are also being planned in various Western states. Environmentalists are outraged at the Forest Service but it claims that it is bound by the rules to permit some logging, drilling and mining.
