ABSTRACT
The article reports that overall manufacturing activity in the Fifth District increased in July 2006 after posting little growth in June, according the monthly business activity survey of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. The manufacturing index rose to 12 in July from 4 in June, while shipments increased to 13 from 3. The volume of new orders rose to 15 from 4, while the backlog of orders index improved from negative 15 to negative 1.
