The article reports on the benefits of lean manufacturing practices for distributors in the steel industry. Inventories are reduced, labor costs are lowered and overall efficiencies are increased through lean manufacturing. One of the most obvious potential benefits for distributors is leaner inventory. A description of the Six Sigma quality improvement method used by many manufacturers, is provided.
