ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the incidence of gastrointestinal (GI) complications following cardiac surgery. Numerous studies have identified the risk factors of the said incidence, including low ejection fraction and peripheral vascular disease. Recent retrospective studies also demonstrated GI complications after cardiac surgery with or without cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). It is observed that prolonged CPB was associated with a higher incidence of GI complications.
