The article reports on the merger of Lucent Technologies and Alcatel. In 2001, Lucent Technologies was looking forward to a similar deal with Alcatel that was not completed. However, in 2006 the two companies made an agreement that enabled Alcatel to acquire Lucent in exchange of stocks valued at approximately $14 billion. Some business analysts believed that the deal was made possible by the strong determination of Lucent Chairman and CEO Patricia Russo, who convinced stockholders of Alcatel to merge with their company.
