ABSTRACT

The article focuses on the immigration debate in the United States in 2006, and highlights the futility of building a wall to secure the U.S. border with Mexico. It is suggested that determined immigrants and those who smuggle have been resourceful in getting around, under or through previous barriers. Making boarder crossing difficult for illegal immigrants can also prevent them from returning to Mexico, keeping them in the United States and using U.S. public services.
