The article focuses on changes in the 2006 Guidelines for Design and Construction of Health Care Facilities made by the Facilities Guidelines Institute and the American Institute of Architects. Single-patient private rooms are the minimum standard for new hospital construction. The minimum size of post-anesthesia care rooms is 80 square feet. Infection control in operating rooms requires the sealing of walls, ceilings and floors and a 25 to 35-feet per minute ventilation air flow face velocity.
