ABSTRACT
The article presents a study which states that reduction in the complications from hip fracture is strongly supported by perioperative practices. Among the preoperative care practices, the pressure-reducing mattresses was used to reduce the development of pressure ulcers. For the reduction of deep venous thrombosis (DVT) and wound infection, DVT prophylaxis and antibiotic prophylaxis were found to be effective. As postoperative practices, nutrition supplementation with vitamins, protein and minerals were found to be better than placebo or general care.
