ABSTRACT
The article reports on the declining revenues of network television news. The industry is facing new competition and short-term profit is affecting long-term viability. It was argued that as news divisions of major broadcast networks move into the digital age they at the same time reducing the journalistic quality on which they have built their reputation. Considering television networks as businesses, profit generation is a must. Suggestions to improve financial performance include the expansion of half-hour evening newscasts to an hour, creation of better news programs in prime time, return into radio and of real news into morning news programs. Quality is considered the key to the given suggestions.
