The American inventor Benjamin Franklin was the one who discovered the methods to produce electrical energy from a chemical reaction. And this is exactly what a battery does. There are several prominent figures in the history of batteries which include the Italian physicist Allessandro Volta and Thomas Edison. The first alkaline battery was developed by Eveready Battery Co. But currently, lithium-ion battery is widely used and the fastest growing batteries are the Li-ions.
