Johnson Redbook Index indicated that same-store sales for 70 retailers increased by only 2.8 percent compared to 4.7 and 6.7 percent gains in May and June, respectively. Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has the biggest loss for the year, while Kohl's Corp. has the highest gain for the month with 7.1 percent.
