ABSTRACT
The article presents a brief survey of world energy strategies to explore what must be done at present and in the future for sustainable energy economy. It discusses the constraints surrounding fuel resources including physical scarcity, geopolitical, environmental and socio-technical aspects. It provides alternative strategies including oil as a main source of fossil energy capital, natural gas, reduced carbon sources such as tar sands in Alberta and oil shales in Colorado and Wyoming in South America. Other non-fossil fuel options include nuclear fission, which is the extraction of heat from fissile isotopes and nuclear fusion.
