The article reports Barclays Bank's acquisition of Wachovia's mortgage servicing business HomEq Servicing will help bolster its standing in the asset-backed securities league tables. It has taken the first step toward building an integrated mortgage business, which is the way other banks have already done. According to Barclays Capital co-president Grant Kvalheim, the deal will improve its ability to price deals, manage risk, and expand its list of counterparties.
