ABSTRACT
The article presents information on two books "How a Seed Grows," by Helene J. Jordan and "Seeds and Seedlings: Nature Close-Up," by Elaine Pascoe. The first book is a story which reinforces among children, the concept that each seed will grow into the same kind of plant that it came from. The second book covers the process of a small plant emerging from a seed as well as types of seeds, their shapes and their dispersal. Both books are helpful for laying a foundation of further learning. Young students learn more effectively from direct observation, and by collecting and recording data. The books are a great help to teachers as they guide them in conducting experiments, holding discussions with young inquisitive minds and assessing their prior knowledge and experiences. Teachers need to keep in mind that young students often develop misconceptions about growth of plants by emphasis on soil and water.
