ABSTRACT
The article reports that the government of Sri Lanka has implemented a new tax scheme for television stations broadcasting foreign films, comedy programs and dramas. The tax rate will be at 75,000 rupees or equivalent to $750 for every 30 minutes, while imported programming which are dubbed into Tamil languages will be taxed at $900 per 30 minutes. Secretary of Treasury, P. B. Jayasundara, said that the new tax policy is not a revenue-generation method but a measure to develop the country's local arts.
