ABSTRACT
The article discusses strokes, which are the leading cause of long-term disability in the United States and the third most common cause of death. In addition the medical care for strokes costs the nation almost $58 billion annually. The treatment of strokes, which varies from hospital to hospital, in the United States is examined.
