ABSTRACT
The article comments on the findings in National Epidemiologic Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions (NESARC) on alcohol abuse and dependence in the U.S. The author states that the results in NESARC offers an opportunity to examine in detail comorbidity between alcohol use disorders (AUDs) and other psychiatric problems in the country. It also shows that the occurrence of comorbid psychiatric disorders with AUDs is not rare but happens in a quarter to almost half of the patients in treatment.
