The article discusses the author's experience concerning with his profession as a physicist. He first researches was to derive all crystal properties from the assumption of a lattice whose particles could be displaced under the action of internal forces. He taught in one of the university in Germany where he continued to do experimental research together with his students on lattice energies and their chemical consequences.
