This article provides information on the Farmers Weekly Limp Lettuce Award. It provides an opportunity for readers to nominate food that crosses continents before it reaches consumers in Great Britain. A nomination for the award came from North Yorkshire FWi user Richard Houseman, who discovered asparagus grown in Peru at Sainsbury's in Ripon, North Yorks. According to fresh produce buyer John Maylam, Sainsbury's asparagus is sourced locally, but at the end of the British asparagus season the company obtains supplies from Peru when British supplies cannot fulfill consumer demand.
