ABSTRACT
The article reports on the launch of an initiative by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to urge chemical producers and formulators of cleaning products voluntarily to phase out the use of nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPE). The EPA says that it has identified safer alternatives to NPE which it claims are comparable in cost and are readily available. The EPA stresses that the safer detergent initiative will recognize companies that voluntarily phase out the production or use of NPE. INSET: NONYLPHENOL ETHOXYLATES.
