ABSTRACT
This article reports on comments by Larry Lamattina, global chairman and CEO of the Interpublic Group of Cos. unit, on a monthlong leave of absence by Michael Kassan as North American president of Western Initiative Media Worldwide, as of August 9, 1999. Lamattina said the return of Kassan after the leave is currently the plan. Lamattina also confirmed reports that Interpublic is conducting a financial audit of Western. But he said it is nothing more than the normal audit they institute on an ongoing basis for all Interpublic companies. Lamattina said the reason Kassan is on leave is that there are some issues they are discussing, internal issues between the company and Kassan. Though the monthlong leave of Kassan will expire this week, Lamattina confirmed that two office assistants of Kassan went on leave July 30.
