ABSTRACT
The article reports on the Google Sketch Up and 3D Warehouse, a free online resource which allow the creation and sharing of 3-D buildings and objects that can be placed onto a Google Earth landscape. It focuses on a project using comprehensive planning for the town of Berthoud, Colorado. It describes the creative integration of tools and techniques for visualization, impact analysis, scenario planning, and citizen engagement. Finally, it explains the investment of significant resources by the town in order to engage the public in defining the community's land-use patterns, transportation features, economic strategies, infrastructure needs, and urban design.
