The article reports on the introduction of a range of cable modem service tiers by RCN Corp. These modern tiers do not require the customer to tier them to other services. RCN is offering a 1.5 million of bits per second (Mbps) tier for $16.95 to dial-up Internet users. RCN requires new customers to commit to a 12-month service contract. It is also marketing 20 Mbps tier. RCN hopes to draw new customers and compete with other cable services.
