ABSTRACT
The article reports that distributors in Great Britain are pressurizing component suppliers to do a better job of running design registration schemes which ensure they are rewarded for business when products are manufacturerd offshore. Some distributors have said that they are losing revenues when parts they have designed for a customer in Europe are purchased in a different geographical region as the project moves offshore for manufacture. According to Fred Knowles, vice president of European sales for Future Electronics, 80 percent of suppliers set a design win target for distributors, yet only 60 percent track those programmes.
