ABSTRACT
This article presents the experience of film editor Dan Swietlik who spent four months with former U.S. vice president Al Gore while editing his movie "An Inconvenient Truth." It's very hard to call him Mr. Vice President, says Swietlik. He's so affable, after a while everybody just calls him Al. An Inconvenient Truth, directed by episodic TV helmsman Davis Guggenheim, largely focuses on Gore's traveling slideshow presentation about the threat of global warming, but also weaves in biographical bits showing the softer side of the once seemingly wooden politician. The challenge was to keep it from being just his presentation and have a facet of it be about Al Gore the man, says Swietlik.
