ABSTRACT
This article discusses the challenges faced by the new government in Israel and the policies towards the Palestinian Authority. The Middle East has learned that Israeli officials are trying to structure a diplomatic and security plan to deal with Hamas by bringing the movement to heel. One way is to get the donor nations who financially support the Palestinian Authority to agree on a coherent working plan that, in the words of a senior Israeli official, does not reward Hamas and similar organizations for violence, or for flouting international law and disregarding obligations and treaties signed by their predecessors.
