Gift card sales are projected to reach $132 billion by 2008, up from $79 billion in 2004. According to a 2006 national web survey conducted by Stored Value Systems Inc., more than eight in 10 adults said they would rather receive a gift card to their favorite retailer than any other kind of gift. While third-party gift cards are still an emerging category in convenience stores, retailers are pleased with the results they are seeing so far.
