ABSTRACT
The article reports on the sales figures for the convenience and competitive channels in the United States. Convenience stores saw sales per store in the confectionery/sweet snack category grow 6.8 percent to $38,953 last year. The National Confectioners Association reports that 2,767 new confectionery products were launched in the U.S. during 2005, a 3.6 percent increase over the prior year. That pace is expected to continue through 2006, as new gum flavors and limited edition chocolate bars, among other items, generate excitement in the marketplace.
