The article focuses on the commitment by the Chinese government to make big investments in the country's ethylene sector. China is committed to adding 10.58 million tonne/year of ethylene capacity under its 11th Five-Year Plan (2006-2010). Last December, China decided to raise the minimum capacity for all existing and new crackers to 800 000 tonne/ year from 600 000 tonne/year, to improve economies of scale and resource efficiency.
