The article reports on the plan of China National Petroleum Corp. (Sinopec) to build a cracker and metathesis unit in an undecided part of southern China and not expand an existing cracker in Guangzhou, Guangdong province. Sinopec plans to start up the project by 2010 instead of the earlier 2008 target so that it will not coincide with the start-ups of other crackers, which could cause market disruptions. Meanwhile, Sinopec has dropped plans to build a styrene monomer unit in Dagang district, Tianjin. INSET: CHANGE OF VENUE FOR UNITS.
