The article presents some suggestions to negotiate a pay package. One should prepare one's case well by gathering evidence to justify one's value to the company. Responsibilities and major achievements should be listed and main emphasis should be on them. It is advisable to compile data on the salary range for one's position so one can pitch oneself at a realistic level. Benefits packages are increasingly flexible, so if a hefty pay rise is not on the cards, think about what might make a fair trade-off, such as extra holiday allowance, a one-off bonus or employer commitment to more regular training and development.
