Pier 1 loss nearly doubles

The article reports that Pier 1 Imports Inc. has revealed that the decline in sales and higher costs led to a loss of 23.2 million dollar in its first quarter ended on May 27, 2006. Pier 1 has 407, 000 dollar in losses from a discontinued operation in its United Kingdom subsidiary Pier 1 that was sold in March 2006. According to the chairman and CEO of the company Marvin Girouard, the company has launched a brand repositioning campaign in mid-March 2006 featuring its new Modern Craftsman goods.
