In our country, different investigations and researches have been made on the subject of Turkish grave stones articles published have been in various periodical papers nowadays and in past. But it was not sufficient and it is so yet. There are quite much grave stones which are still unknown. Also, in order to set the subject on a solid base, the historical development has been studied here without entering into the depth of the matter. It is known that erecting gravestones are a very old tradition stretching back into periods preceding writing.
