ABSTRACT
The article emphasizes the difficulties in the identification of rights holders, a step needed by U.S. music publishers to license songs for radio airplay and other uses. For one, inaccurate data can lead to a waste of money when it comes to things like royalty payments. And since copyright registration is not mandatory, no central database exists that lists rights holders. The inaccuracies in databases includes typographical errors on names of songwriters and song titles.
