ABSTRACT
The article provides an insight into the state of the music industry in Canada. When Canadian artists Shania Twain, Terri Clark and Lisa Brokop opened the door, other Canadian acts stepped through and began working with Nashville labels. However, those artists and others have parted from their U.S. labels in the past few years and now have direct signing, licensing or pressing and distribution deals in Canada. From one standpoint, the loss of major-label status in Canada is not necessarily a negative.
