This article reports on the testing of cars on airplane runway. The organizers elected to run the Audi first, partly because it is an auto and harder to stuff up with but mainly because the all four wheel drive system will mask any lack of grip. The Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG was next and while its automatic transmission suggests dead-simple launches, the reverse is actually true. There is so much grunt on tap from that mega 5.4-liter V8 that even simply stomping on the accelerator is enough to send the bags up in palls of smoke.
