ABSTRACT
The article reports on the opposition of U.S. Democrats on the decision of the U.S. Energy Department to reimburse only defined contribution pension and medical benefits for newly hired contract workers. Senators Edward Kennedy, Harry Reid of Nevada and four others introduced a bill to overturn the policy. According to Representative George Miller, the rule penalizes responsible employers with guaranteed retirement benefits and affordable health insurance.
