ABSTRACT
The article reports on the abolition of 3-percent tax on long distance calls by the U.S. Treasury Department. Historically wise, the federal excise tax was established in 1998 to finance the Spanish-American War. This include 3 percent levy on local and long distance calls. Now that the tax was already lifted, every consumer shall expect a refund of their long-distance-call taxes they have paid for the past three years. The abolition of the long distance tax will be effective starting July 31, 2006 unless amended, revised, or repealed.
