The article reports on the possible effects of the stand-off in the Asian acrylonitrile (ACN) market on acrylic producers as of May 2006. ACN producers are targeting spot levels of up to $1500/tonne following tight supply and firm feedstock costs and have a strengthening downstream acrylonitrile-butadiene styrene (ABS) market to rely on. Buyers of acrylo for fibres production, meanwhile, are facing competition from polyester fibres markets, especially in oversupplied China. They will find it difficult to increase prices to match upstream feedstock hikes.
