The European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic) is establishing its own for-profit service, ReachCentrum, to help member companies and non-affiliated firms prepare for and comply with the new European Union (EU) Reach legislation. Chemicals at the AZF Toulouse site of Grande Paroisse, a division of Total, were responsible for the devastating explosion on September 21, 2001 in the area, according to public prosecutor Paul Michel. German precious metals and catalysts group Heraeus has expressed interest in acquiring Engelhard's precious metals trading business from Badische Anilin und Soda-Fabrik AG (BASF) if the chemical group is successful in its planned hostile takeover.
