ABSTRACT
The article recalls important events in the chemical industry. ICI is facing the threat of a hostile takeover, following a raid in May 1991 that saw UK conglomerate Hanson pick up 20m of ICI's shares for £240m and lift its stake in the firm to 2.8%. Dow Chemical Japan plans to team up with Japanese partners to produce chemical intermediates such as amines and propylene oxide derivatives.
