ABSTRACT
The article reports that general practitioners in Great Britain are being asked for their views on ethical arguments surrounding public health policy. The consultation has been launched by the Nuffield Council on Bioethics to look at how the government can improve its public health agenda. Other areas being looked at include restricting healthcare for those who smoke or drink excessively, or asking them to make greater contributions, and also issues of quarantine or mandatory testing for infectious diseases.
