ABSTRACT
The article presents information on the author's experiences of visiting Nairobi, Kenya, to spread health education. The author decided to put her general practitioner (GP) skills to use and go out for a short trip. The aim was to assess ways to support the healthcare of the children and staff in the Thomas Barnado Orphanage. The staff there used her time and skills very efficiently; in fact, her generic general practice skills of listening, counselling and problem solving proved the most useful. Some of the work was very similar to her GP job, such as health checks for the 30 children in the nursery and teaching about infection control and child development.
