ABSTRACT
The article reports on stagnant growth of the three bookstore chains Barnes & Noble, Borders Group and Books-A-Million for the first quarter of 2006. Comparable store sales (CSS) for Barnes & Noble fell 0.3% in the first quarter of 2006, as compared to a CSS increase of 2.2% in the first quarter of 2005. Borders reported an increase of 0.7% for the first quarter of 2006. Books-A-Million reported a CSS decrease of 0.3% for the first quarter of 2006 as compared to a 2.6% CSS increase in 2005.
