ABSTRACT
This article reports on a business activity survey conducted by the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond in Richmond, California, which revealed that the manufacturing index decreased to 1 in May 2006 from 18 in April 2006, while shipments slid to 2 from 22. Volume of new orders slumped to 3 from 21, while the backlog of orders index declined to negative 8 from negative 3. The capacity utilization index fell to 4 from 13, while the vendor lead-time index inched up to 6 from 5. According to the survey, capacity utilization fell to 18 from 27 and the vendor lead time index dipped to 9 from 12.
