ABSTRACT
The article presents information on Columbus, Ohio-based Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co.'s deal to sell Gartmore Investment Management to a core group of roughly two-dozen of its managers. San Francisco, California-based private equity firm Hellman and Friedman will own 50% of the firm. Allen Thorpe, a managing director at Hellman and Friedman predicts that the deal will increase the opportunities to invest in asset management firms that can become independent. Nationwide bought Gartmore in 2000. The company is retaining the U.S. investment operations of Gartmore.
