ABSTRACT
The article states that according to preliminary U.S. Census Bureau data, the U.S. imported 3,888,000 net tons of steel in March 2006, including 2,916,000 net tons of finished steel. The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that year-to-date imports in these two categories climbed 32 percent and 27 percent, respectively, compared to the first three months of 2005. AISI officials claim that the trend is particularly pronounced among products from certain countries with a history of unfair trading.
