ABSTRACT
The article presents information on the financial performance of several metal companies in the U.S. in the first-quarter of 2006. AK Steel Corp., despite a lockout of union employees at its largest facility, reported net income of $6.2 million for the first quarter of 2006. IPSCO Inc. generated sales of $902.9 million in the first-quarter of 2006, an increase of 17.8 percent from first-quarter 2005. Alcoa Inc. reported net income of $608 million, a 171 percent increase from the $260 million for the first-quarter of 2005 and 134 percent ahead of the previous three months.
